Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Eyebrow MICROBLADING is a manual technique of permanent eyebrow makeup, ideal for those seeking the most natural results. During the procedure, eyebrow hairs are drawn into the top layer of the skin. Depending on the skills of the Artist, a very realistic eyebrow look can be created.

WHAT IS PHIBROWS?

PhiBrows is an exemplary Microblading method, enabling a PhiBrows Artist to achieve the most natural looking eyebrow effect. The PhiBrows Artist certificate is granted only after the graduation from a prestigious international beauty academy – the PhiAcademy.

During the procedure, an eyebrow shape is created carefully following an individual’s face morphology, and applying the Phi Golden Ratio 1.618. Eyebrows are professionally drawn one hair at a time, following the natural hair growth.

PhiBrows stands for a perfect brow shape, symmetry, and the most impressive natural brow effect.

WHAT IS SHADING?
Eyebrow SHADING is commonly applied with a PMU needle device, which deposits pigment into the skin in a similar manner to a tattoo machine, however is much more shallow in application depth. It is often compared to a skin coloring technique, which creates a makeup effect. Depending on the Artist’s hand movements and the chosen shading method, various results can be obtained – from a gentle powder-like touch, to a vibrant makeup look.
WHAT IS MICROSHADING?
Eyebrow MICROSHADING is a combination of two techniques – Microblading and Shading. The most desired combination is achieved by microblading hair at the brow’s beginning, and shading the brow towards the end. In addition, a shadow can be applied between the microbladed hair to obtain the effect of fuller looking eyebrows. This technique is especially suitable for those with very little to no natural hair.
HOW LONG DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?
Usually, eyebrow PMU lasts for about 1-2 years. However, depending on the skin type, age, and everyday habits, the pigment can last up to 3 years, and beyond.

  • Mature skin retains pigment longer due to a slower skin regeneration process.
  • Dry skin retains pigment better than oily skin. Several perfecting sessions might be needed for oily or problematic skin.
  • Color fades faster from sun exposure; therefore, sunscreen with SPF 50 or more is recommended.
  • Retention is usually poor for breast-feeding women, due to hormonal imbalance.
  • Hormonal therapy, antibiotics, and other medication can cause poor pigment retention or faster fading.

To maintain the desired brow color, touch-ups are recommended once a year.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE LAST?
The 1st session lasts about 2.5 hours, including consultation, skin preparation, eyebrow mapping, and pigment application. After 1-2 months, a perfecting session is required for best results, as the applied pigment is not 100% retained after only one session.
IS IT PAINFUL?
The pain level is rather low, but very individually perceived. Most often it is compared to eyebrow hair plucking pain.
HOW DO BROWS LOOK AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
After the procedure, eyebrows are up to 40% darker and about 15% thicker, compared to the healed result. The redness and mild swelling is normal, and usually goes away within a few hours to one day, depending on the skin type.
WHAT IS THE HEALING TIME?
Eyebrows usually heal in about 10-14 days through slight scabbing and peeling. The pigment’s intensity greatly softens during the second week, post-scabbing. The final result is visible approximately after 1 month, when pigment sets in.
WHAT IS THE POST-TREATMENT CARE?
Post-treatment care makes up 70% of the healed result. Therefore, it is very important to follow the Artist’s instructions provided according to the individual skin type and condition. Usually it is recommended:

  • First day – wipe eyebrows gently with distilled water and pat dry every 1-2 hours.
  • First week – starting from the second day – apply a very thin layer of the healing ointment 2-3 times a day. No more wiping with water is required, unless the lymph is still present.
  • At least for one week – do not use any moisturisers or makeup products in the eyebrow area, except the healing ointment. Avoid excessive sweating, swimming pools, saunas, sunbathing, face massages, etc.
  • During the healing – do not scratch/remove any scabs, as this can result in the loss of pigment.
  • Always – avoid laser procedures in the treated area. Protect eyebrows from sun exposure with a sunscreen SPF 50+, except for the first week after the procedure (when solely healing ointment can be applied).
CAN EYEBROWS GET WET AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
It is advisable to keep eyebrows dry during the first week after procedure. Pat dry immediately if brows get wet. Limit your shower time to avoid excessive steam.
WHY IS A PERFECTING SESSION NEEDED?
After the first 1-2 months, a Perfecting session is required. Some pigment will be lost during the healing period; therefore, the lighter brow areas might need to be filled in and color intensified. Several Perfecting sessions might be scheduled for oily or problematic skin.
CAN MICROBLADING BE DONE ON PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Yes, if previous pigment has almost faded; otherwise, Microblading will not be visible. Even in such cases, the microbladed strokes can turn out blurry when healed. Pigment retention is often shorter.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
  • One month before the procedure, it is recommended to avoid skin regeneration treatments, Botox, or other fillers, as well as heavy sun tanning.
  • Two weeks prior to the treatment, it is not recommended to tint eyebrows in order to correctly determine the natural hair colour for the most realistic treatment result.
  • One day before the session, it is advisable to avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, blood thinners, strong hormone drugs, alcohol, or other stimulants. Always consult with your physician regarding your medicine intake.
ARE THE NATURAL BROW HAIRS SHAVED BEFORE THE PROCEDURE?
Absolutely NOT! The most realistic result is achieved only when permanent makeup complements the natural brow hair.
WHEN IS THE PROCEDURE NOT PERFORMED?
The procedure is not performed, or doctor’s permission is required in the presence of the following cases:

  • Heart disease
  • Blood thinning medication
  • Hemophilia
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Infections, immunodeficiency viruses
  • Skin diseases
